چکیده

We study gravitational curvature effects in circular and radial geodesics in static, spherically symmetric space-times, using Fermi normal coordinates. We first set up these coordinates in the general case, and then use this to study effective magnetic fields due to gravitational curvature in the exterior and interior Schwarzschild, Janis-Newman-Winicour, and Bertrand space-times. We show that these fields can be large for specific parameter values in the theories, and thus might have observational significance. We discuss the qualitative differences of the magnetic field for vacuum space-times and for those seeded by matter. We estimate the magnitude of these fields in realistic galactic scenarios and discuss their possible experimental relevance. Gravitational curvature corrections to the Hydrogen atom spectrum for these space-times are also discussed briefly. ∗E-mail: deyanshu, rupam, tapo @iitk.ac.in

Normal Fermi-Walker Derivative in E_{1}^{3}

In this paper, firstly, in $E_1^3$, we defined normal Fermi-Walker derivative and applied for the adapted frame. Normal Fermi-Walker parallelism, normal non-rotating frame, and Darboux vector expressions of normal Fermi-Walker derivative by normal Fermi-Walker derivative are given for adapted frame. Being conditions of normal Fermi-Walker derivative and normal non-rotating frame are examined fo...

Experimental tests of curvature couplings of Fermions in General Relativity

Spin 1 2 particles in geodesic trajectories experience no gravitational potential but they still have non-zero couplings to the curvature tensor. The effect of space time curvature on fermions can be parameterized by a vector and a pseudo-vector potential. These apparent CPT violating terms can be measured with satellite based spinpolarized torsion balance and clock comparison experiments. The ...

Cern–th/98–252 Canonical General Relativity: Matter Fields in a General Linear Frame

Building on the results of previous work [5], we demonstrate how matter fields are incorporated into the general linear frame approach to general relativity. When considering the Maxwell one-form field, we find that the system that leads naturally to canonical vierbein general relativity has the extrinsic curvature of the Cauchy surface represented by gravitational as well as non-gravitational ...

Rotation in relativity and the propagation of light

— We compare and contrast the different points of view of rotation in general relativity, put forward by Mach, Thirring and Lense, and Gödel. Our analysis relies on two tools: (i) the Sagnac effect which allows us to measure rotations of a coordinate system or induced by the curvature of spacetime, and (ii) computer visualizations which bring out the alien features of the Gödel Universe. In ord...

We examine theories of gravity which include finitely many coupled scalar fields with arbitrary couplings to the curvature (wavemaps). We show that the most general scalar-tensor σ-model action is conformally equivalent to general relativity with a minimally coupled wavemap with a particular target metric. Inflation on the source manifold is then shown to occur in a novel way due to the combine...
